Pallet racking is a popular storage solution used in warehouses, manufacturing facilities, retail centres, and other storage and distribution facilities. We have both new and used pallet racking options available and can help with the entire pallet racking system.

Selective Racking

The most common type of pallet racking provides easy access to individual pallets / product.

Drive-in Racking

High density storage ideal for high product quantities with low stock rotation requirments

Cantilever Racking

Typically used for storing longer lengths of material including timber, steel and plumbing.

Mezzanine

Double or even triple your warehouse's current storage capacity within the same floor space.

Flexible Warehouse Storage

Pallet racking systems allow for the storage of palletised materials on horizontal rows with multiple levels. To place materials onto the racks, forklift trucks are typically needed, especially important for warehouse racking.

A Pallet racking system offers various warehouse storage solutions that utilise vertical space to increase capacity without requiring extra floor space. In fact, mezzanine floors are a popular choice to allow office space without giving up storage space overall, as well as multiple tiers of stacking.

This type of racking, consisting of uprights, bracing, and beams, is an affordable option for storing pallets. Standard forklifts with tynes are typically sufficient for managing palletised stock within these systems, but certain variations may require specialized material handling equipment or forklift attachments.

These include cable, carpet, and drum racking systems.

Pallet racking design considerations

A variety of pallet storage racks are offered, each with its own unique designs and purposes. When designing the perfect pallet racking system, several factors need to be considered, such as:

Who employs pallet racking systems in their warehouse?

This storage solution is beneficial for those who own and oversee warehouses or large storage facilities, as well as numerous other individuals. Whether you need to conveniently access your inventory or run your business more efficiently, effectively utilising pallet rack shelving, along with proper maintenance of forklifts and facility layout, is key.

When considering the best pallet racking system for your warehouse, there are several factors worth considering. With a wide range of options available, it can be challenging to decide which one will meet your specific needs.

To make an informed decision, ask yourself the following questions:

  • What type of picking profiles do I have?
  • Are there any regulations that I need to adhere to?
  • What level of forklift access do I require?

Once you have determined these requirements, it’s time to compare different pallet racking systems and choose the right one for your business.

Alternatively, rely on the expertise of Complete Warehouse Solutions to ensure that your warehouse is equipped with the most suitable pallet racking system for your needs.

Whether you already have racking in place or are planning a new installation, it is crucial to guarantee compliance with the latest standards.

Note these standards may not apply to used racking. Please contact the experts at Complete Warehouse Solutions to discuss.

Australian Standard for Racking Design & Operation (AS4084-2023)

The release of the new Australian Standard for racking design and operation (AS4084-2023) has set a benchmark for warehouse and logistics operators. Any racking installed or reconfigured must comply with this standard, which was introduced in 2023. Racking purchased prior to 2022, meeting the 2012 standards, is exempt from replacement. However, if it undergoes any changes or exhibits signs of fatigue or damage, it must adhere to AS4084-2023.

Racking that was purchased prior to 2022 and meets the 2012 standards is not required to be replaced. However, in the event of reconfiguration, relocation, or any indications of wear or damage, the racking must adhere to the updated AS 4084-2023 standards.

Important points to keep in mind for operators (asset owners) following AS 4084-2023:

Annual inspections are mandatory and must be conducted by a “Competent Person” with relevant experience in the industry.

All documentation, such as manuals, inspection audits, and repair logs, should be kept for the lifetime of the racking system.

To ensure safety, upright protectors of at least 400mm height should be placed along gangways, at end-of-row frames, and at aisle cross-sections.

Single-sided racking must have backing mesh installed to protect pedestrians behind it if backing on to a walkway.

Load signage must meet certain criteria: being permanent, corrosion-resistant, no smaller than A3 in size, and with a font height of at least 20 mm.

Height restrictions apply when an end frame is next to a trafficable aisle. It must extend past the top load beam by at least 50% of the pallet height.
